Plastic Engineering

ENGADIN TAILWINDS specialises in advanced engineering, with a full range of services to meet our customers' needs.

Our expertise includes mold design, a critical process for ensuring precision and efficiency in manufacturing. Our expert engineers work closely with clietns to create custom solutions, optimizing designs and materials to maximize performance.

Besides, we offer Reverse Engineering services, a technique used to analyze and reconstruct existing products. This service is particularly valuable for improving existing products or developing innovative variants.

By using cutting-edge tools, we can also identify the key features of a product thus providing effective solutions for its improvement or evolution.

Finally, we offer 3D scanning services, which allow us to capture complex details of physical objects quickly and accurately. 3D scans are essential for design and manufacturing, as they provide accurate data for the subsequent development of prototypes and finished products.

With ENGADIN TAILWINDS, you can count on a reliable and innovative partner, ready to support you in every phase of the engineering process, from conception to realization.

01

3D Modelling

The combined use of different 3D scanning systems allows ENGADIN TAILWINDS to precisely and accurately detect every detail, making the process extremely useful in the mold repair and maintenance sector. The CAD mathematics (3D surface or solid) of the scanned object is reconstructed starting from the cloud of points or polygonal file; this allows not only to fully and faithfully replicate the model or mold, but also to make partial or substantial changes to it. The 3D modelling process can eventually be completed through the engineering phase of the surfaces or solids, until the final integration of all the project parts.
By matching the 3D scan on the CAD mathematics it is possible to check the model or mold, verifying errors in shape and 3D dimensions. ENGADIN TAILWINDS measures optically for Reverse Engineering and Dimensional Control in the sectors: molds for plastic injection, thermoforming, die casting, rotational, blow molding, foundry models.

3D scanning
INDUSTRIAL DESIGN

3D scans make an idea or a style concept usable, fixing its shape with precision to allow its modelling and engineering.
The scan memorizes the designer's idea, reverse engineering allows to improve the shape and industrialize the product.
Engadin Tailwinds measures optically for Reverse Engineering and Dimensional Control in all sectors of Industrial Design:
• furniture
• household appliances
• toys and gadgets
• fashion accessories
• optical and sports items
• car and motorcycle components.

03

3D Scanning
Three-Dimensional

Using the proper technology, we offer full-field, laser, discrete points or real-time 3D scans, and are able to digitize, with adequate precision, the surface of any object.
The single three-dimensional scan allows you to generate a continuous or discrete cloud of points (ASCII, TXT, IGS, and so on...). The acquired clouds of points, even if they are not homogeneous or acquired with different measurement systems, are carefully aligned with each other in a single reference system and then further processed until a polygonal model is obtained (STL, DXF 3D, WRML, OBJ, PLY, and so on...). The polygonal model or mesh is directly usable in the Reverse Engineering, Dimensional Control and Rapid Prototyping processes.

3D Measurements
Photogrammetry

3D dimensional control using photogrammetry.
A three-dimensional measurement of the model is carried out using photogrammetric systems (by points) that allow obtaining a discrete cloud of points (point-centroids). The 3D cloud of points obtained is superimposed on the 3D CAD model of the particular using Best-Fit, RPS, 3-2-1 and other alignment methods.
The control report is a discrete mapping of error points, which indicates the deviation (error) between the measured point and the surface of the CAD model. It is possible to check discrete shapes and simple dimensions.

3D Dimensional Control
Optical Scanner

These 3D measurements require the model to be scanned using a structured light 3D scanner that allows obtaining a very dense cloud of points (up to 8-15 points per mm). The 3D XYZ cloud of points is superimposed on the 3D CAD model of the part using Best-Fit, RPS, 3-2-1 and other alignment methods. The control report is a color error map, which indicates, with different colors, the deviation (error) between the CAD model and the scan. It is possible to check shapes, surfaces and simple dimensions, even on sections.

06

3D Dimensional Control
CMM

The model is measured using a 3D contact measuring machine (CMM). The measured dimensions are referred to the dimensions in the drawing or in mathematics and compared with them. The control report is a classic CTR with or without a “peened” drawing, indicating for each dimension the error or difference between the nominal and measured value. It is possible to check any dimension as well as simple shapes.

3D Dimensional Control
Industrial Tomography

In cases where the object has internal cavities, tomographic scanning is able to return information that cannot be obtained with other non-destructive techniques. The internal volumes are detected without having to "cut" the object, thus preserving its integrity. ENGADIN TAILWINDS uses it mainly in 2 specific fields:
• Dimensional Analysis of three-dimensional type or for two-dimensional sections.
• Both the geometric shape and the external and internal metrological dimensions of the part are checked.
• Reverse Engineering with reconstruction of the mathematical model of the external surfaces but also and above all of the internal volumes.

08

3D Printing
Rapid Prototyping

All scanned objects can be transformed into functional prototypes in extremely rapid times, thanks to 3D printing. Using 3D printing techniques – rapid prototyping, it is possible to replicate models in different materials and with high quality standards: resin stereolithography, nylon sintering, ABS deposition, direct milling, creation of silicone molds. The same techniques allow the creation of both unique prototypes and molds for pre- or small series. The creation of the prototype is certainly the best process for verifying the functionality of the commissioned project and obtaining final approval: the materials available, in fact, guarantee quality and consistency completely similar to the final product. ENGADIN TAILWINDS offers the customer the prototyping or 3D printing service with high-level technological partnerships.
